Peter Obi launches three-city U.S. tour to engage Nigerians in Diaspora

In an ongoing initiative to connect with the Nigerian Diaspora and promote a dialogue for a renewed Nigeria, Labour Party leader and former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has launched a three-day tour across three cities in the United States. The tour commenced today in Houston, Texas, and will proceed to Los Angeles, California, before concluding in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 26th.

This journey represents the final segment of Obi’s extensive appreciation visits throughout North America, which have included stops in Canada, Boston, New York City, New Jersey, and various other U.S. locations. His dedication to engaging with Nigerians abroad underscores a promise made during the 2023 election campaign to actively involve the Diaspora in the nation-building process.

Obi’s tour aims to redefine political engagement by fostering continuous interaction with voters outside of election periods. Traditionally, politicians have reached out only during campaigns, often sidelining the electorate once votes are secured. Through this appreciation tour, Mr. Obi seeks to establish a new standard that emphasizes gratitude and sustained dialogue.

The events will feature an interactive format, allowing attendees to engage directly with Mr. Obi, ask questions, and learn about his vision for a “New Nigeria.” His discussions will highlight his aspirations for a brighter future while addressing the current challenges facing the nation, offering solutions and fostering hope.

“I am profoundly grateful for the steadfast support and trust that Nigerians, both at home and abroad, have shown me,” Mr. Obi stated. “This tour is a reflection of my commitment to engaging with the Diaspora as we work together towards building a new Nigeria.”

The tour is anticipated to attract large gatherings of Nigerians in the U.S., eager to interact with Mr. Obi and hear about his plans for Nigeria’s future. With a focus on interactive dialogue, the events promise to strengthen the connection between the diaspora and their homeland.
