Nigerian lady explains why she’s leaving U.S for Nigeria

Jenny Jones, a Nigerian woman who has spent years living and working in the United States, has announced her decision to relocate to Nigeria, citing a lack of fulfillment and burnout as key reasons for the move.

In a series of TikTok videos, Jenny revealed that despite the stability and opportunities in the U.S., she feels mentally exhausted and unfulfilled.

According to her, returning to Nigeria will not only provide her with a fresh start but also allow her to pursue her passion for fashion by launching her own clothing line.

“I’m moving to Nigeria because I feel burnt out in the U.S. and need a break. I’m also starting my clothing brand,” she explained.

Beyond business, Jenny sees the move as an opportunity to break free from the monotony of a 9-to-5 job, which she describes as draining and repetitive.

“For me, my mental health comes first. No amount of supplements or therapy can change the fact that if you live in a place where you don’t feel fulfilled, you will always be in a constant battle with your mind. You wake up, go to work, come back, rest for two days, do chores, and before you know it, it’s Monday again. That’s not the life I want,” she said.

Jenny added that while leaving the U.S. was not an easy decision, it was necessary for her personal growth and peace of mind.

She plans to settle in Lagos and focus on building her business.

Addressing those who question her decision, she expressed excitement about the transition. “People ask why I want to leave the U.S. for Nigeria, and I tell them, ‘I don’t want to work a 9-to-5 job for the rest of my life. I don’t want to work for someone else forever. That’s just not the life I want.’ Just talking about moving to Nigeria already makes me feel happier,” she concluded.
