Nigerian woman cries out, accuses German authorities of seizing two sons

A Nigerian woman residing in Germany, Adenike Obaoye, has accused German authorities of refusing to release her two children, alleging that the country is unlawfully retaining custody of the minors.

Obaoye, who made the claims in a video posted on her TikTok account, said her children, Noah and David—born in August 2021 and July 2022 respectively—are not German citizens and should be allowed to travel with her to Nigeria.

According to her, a family court in Berlin-Kreuzberg declined her request to take her sons out of the country. “Done with the Family Court at Berlin-Kreuzberg, and the German female judge refused to release my non-German children to travel to Nigeria as I demanded,” she wrote in the caption of her video.

Obaoye stated that the children are Nigerian by birth and do not possess dual citizenship with Germany. She expressed frustration over what she described as a violation of both her parental rights and those of her children.

“At the court, Germany refused to release non-German children, claiming they want the children to remain in Germany. This is a violation of the children’s rights and my own rights as their mother,” she said, adding, “I’m a single mother with sole custody of both children. Germans want to inherit children that are not theirs.”

She further claimed that the situation amounted to what she called “state kidnapping,” suggesting that German authorities are attempting to take custody of her children without legal justification. “But this justice will not last. I’m still going to fight it,” she vowed.

Efforts to reach Obaoye for clarification on the court’s reasons for withholding custody were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to messages as of the time of filing this report.
