Five Americans plead guilty in connection with Nigerian sextortion scheme

Five Americans have pleaded guilty to their involvement in laundering proceeds from a Nigerian sextortion ring led by Samuel Ogoshi, Samson Ogoshi, and Ezekiel Robert, according to an announcement made by Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, Andrew Birge, on Thursday.

The guilty parties, identified as Dinsimore Guyton Robinson (29), Kendall Ormond London (32), Brian Coldmon Jr. (30), Jarell Daivon Williams (31), and Johnathan Demetrius Green (32), were accused of conspiring to use online payment systems to launder money generated by sextortion activities.

The indictment highlights how the conspirators facilitated the transfer of proceeds to a Nigerian figure referred to as “The Plug.”

Among the victims was Jordan DeMay, a 17-year-old high school student from Marquette, Michigan, who tragically died in November 2022 after falling victim to the scam.

“These individuals profited from this heart-wrenching scheme, and they will now face the consequences of their actions,” Birge stated. The conspiracy charge carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, with the court to decide sentences based on federal guidelines and individual circumstances.

Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in charge of the FBI’s Michigan Division, praised the investigative teams’ relentless efforts.

“This plea serves as a stark reminder to anyone involved in sextortion or money laundering schemes. We remain committed to dismantling criminal networks that exploit vulnerable individuals,” Gibson remarked.

In related developments, Nigerian nationals Samuel and Samson Ogoshi, aged 22 and 20, had previously pleaded guilty to conspiring to sexually exploit minors, including teenage boys across the United States.

The two brothers, who were convicted for their roles in creating fake accounts and extorting victims, are cooperating with authorities in prosecuting other individuals involved.

The crime of conspiring to sexually exploit minors carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 30 years.
