Nigerian-Born Abayomi Whint sworn in as Judge in New York’s Kings County Civil Court

Abayomi Whint, a Nigerian-born legal professional, has officially been sworn in as a judge for the Kings County Civil Court in New York, marking a major milestone in her distinguished judicial journey.

Whint, who was elected as one of eight judges in Brooklyn in November 2024, shared her momentous achievement through an Instagram video, captioned, “Welcome to the bench, Your Honor!”

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Brooklyn Law School and was attended by family and friends, who donned white and green attire to celebrate her success. During the event, she solemnly pledged to fulfill her duties with utmost dedication and integrity, with the support of God.

With more than two decades of experience in public service, Whint has built a diverse career as a litigator, certified mediator, and arbitrator, with a focus on conflict resolution. She is also known for her leadership in organizational development, inclusivity, and restorative justice.

To honor her achievement, Nigeria’s Consul General, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, and his wife hosted a special banquet in her honor at the Nigerian Embassy in New York.

Whint’s appointment is seen as an inspiration to the Nigerian diaspora and underscores the growing impact of Nigerians within the global legal field.
