The European Union (EU) has announced a €300,000 grant aimed at strengthening Eurocham Nigeria, the European Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria.
This funding will focus on enhancing the secretariat’s capacity, expanding advocacy efforts, and increasing engagement with external stakeholders, benefiting the organization’s members.
The announcement was made by EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, during Eurocham’s 25th Annual Stakeholders Conference in Lagos on Thursday.
Mignot highlighted that the three-year grant would help bolster Eurocham’s role in policy dialogue, fostering a favorable business climate by engaging with government entities, policymakers, and various stakeholders.
“Notably, in 2024, we approved a three-year €300,000 grant for Eurocham. This support will enhance the Chamber’s administrative functions and facilitate further expansion in external activities and advocacy on behalf of its members,” Mignot said.
This initiative aligns with the EU’s broader goal of enhancing trade and investment ties between the European Union and Nigeria.
Mignot reiterated the EU’s commitment to collaborating with Eurocham to create business opportunities that would benefit both economies and solidify the EU’s position as a key strategic partner to Nigeria.
Emphasizing the EU’s role as Nigeria’s largest trading partner and a significant source of foreign investment, Mignot underscored the importance of strong governance and coordination with EU member states and bilateral chambers.
He noted that deepening trade, investment, and infrastructure development would continue to drive mutual growth.
Additionally, Mignot discussed the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy, a four-year initiative designed to improve infrastructure across Africa, including Nigeria.
Some key projects funded under this strategy include the Omi Eko water transportation project, digital skills programs, and the deployment of 90,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables.
He also emphasized investments in agriculture, renewable energy, vaccine manufacturing, and sustainable transportation, noting that Eurocham’s active involvement would be crucial in identifying opportunities and advocating for a favorable business environment.
The grant and the associated initiatives aim to create a more dynamic and cooperative business ecosystem, benefiting both European and Nigerian economies.
