From Nigeria to Canada: Segun Johnson honored with Brampton Mayor’s recognition

Renowned Nigerian artist and the hitmaker of “Ota Lenu,” Segun Johnson, has achieved another major milestone in his career.

Following his sold-out performance in Toronto, Canada, in August 2024, Johnson was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, for his outstanding contributions to entertainment and his role as a changemaker.

Although Mayor Patrick Brown was unable to attend the event in person, his commendations were delivered by Garry Collins, Director of Communications for the Mayor’s office in Brampton. Reflecting on the recognition, Johnson expressed his appreciation, noting the significance of the honor.

“I had a tour in Canada last August, and this recognition by the Mayor of Brampton shows that our performances have reached far beyond Nigeria. Brampton, with its large Nigerian population, made me feel especially proud. The Mayor spoke highly of the Nigerian community, which made me even more appreciative of our culture,” said Johnson.

One memorable moment for Johnson was when the Mayor’s team joined in dancing to his music, a gesture that left a lasting impression. “Seeing the Mayor’s team dance to my hype lines was incredible. It shows that my music resonates with people worldwide, even those who are neither Nigerian nor African. It was a powerful reminder that our culture is loved and respected globally.”

Motivated by this recognition, Segun Johnson is now focused on expanding his reach. “This recognition has inspired me to plan more tours across different cities, bringing my unique style of music and engaging performances to a broader audience,” he added.
