Frances Osamor makes history as first black woman to earn PhD in computer science at UDC

Frances Osamor, a US-based Nigerian, has made history by becoming the first black woman to earn a Doctorate in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).

Starting her journey with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Computer Science from UDC, Dr. Osamor achieved her PhD in 2024.

She is currently a senior application systems specialist manager at WMATA.

Beyond her professional success, Dr. Osamor is also the president of Good Cause Circle, a nonprofit dedicated to creating positive change.

She is working on her debut book, Impossible is Nothing, which recounts her personal journey to success.

A passionate advocate for empowering women, she mentors others to break through fears and limitations.

Dr. Osamor is committed to amplifying black voices in technology and paving the way for future generations, ensuring that diversity and inclusivity are at the forefront of the tech world.
