Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has congratulated young Nigerian chess players from the Chess in Slums Initiative for their remarkable achievements at the 12th Annual Chess & Community Conference in the United States.
The talented youngsters earned multiple medals and scholarships, proving the brilliance and resilience of Nigerian youth on the global stage.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dabiri-Erewa also commended Chess in Slums founder, Tunde Onakoya, for his dedication to empowering underprivileged children through chess.
“These children have demonstrated that talent has no boundaries. Their success is an inspiration, and we must continue to support initiatives that unlock the potential of our youth,” she said.
Founded by Onakoya, a Guinness World Record holder for the longest chess marathon, the Chess in Slums Initiative is a non-profit organisation that introduces chess to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them develop critical thinking, confidence, and access to life-changing opportunities.
