Nigerian Official, Omatseye named referee for African Athletics in Algeria

Omatseye Nesiama, a seasoned athletics official and former technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), has been appointed as a referee for the upcoming 3rd African U18/U20 Combined Championships set to take place in Oran, Algeria.

The confirmation of his appointment was contained in an official letter signed by the Director-General of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Lamine Faty.

The championship is scheduled to run from July 14 to July 18.

In response to the appointment, the retired Navy Commodore expressed his appreciation for the continued recognition from both the CAA and World Athletics (WA), citing their repeated invitations as a mark of trust in his capabilities.

“I’m deeply honored to be chosen once again. I remain grateful to Nigerians for their constant support, and by God’s grace, I’ll ensure this task is carried out with excellence,” Nesiama said.

Nesiama holds the distinction of being the only Nigerian-based individual licensed by World Athletics as an athlete representative, a role that allows him to manage some of the world’s elite athletes.

Currently serving as the representative for coaches and technical officials on the AFN board, Nesiama is a highly respected international technical official and a certified World Athletics lecturer.

He was recently selected to train Ghanaian technical officials in preparation for the African Games in Accra.
