The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has assured Nigerians living abroad that the country remains welcoming to foreign investors.
In a statement released on Sunday, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized that the Nigerian government has put in place measures to create a conducive environment for investment.
Her remarks followed a protest and petition from the Foreign Investors Network (FIN), led by its President, Ifeoma Nkengwu, and Country Representative, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba.
The group claimed that the current investment climate in Nigeria is not favorable for prospective investors.
They pointed to the case of Winhomes Global Services Limited, which alleged that it had invested over $250 million in a real estate project in Okun Ajah, Lagos—only for the development to be demolished by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi.
Dabiri-Erewa responded, saying, “We acknowledge FIN’s decision to reach out to NiDCOM, albeit several months after the issue had already gained significant media attention. We initiated a fact-finding process and some officials visited the affected site.”
She added, however, that since the matter is currently in court, NiDCOM must await the outcome of the legal proceedings.
Highlighting investment opportunities, Dabiri-Erewa noted that the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) remains a key platform for Nigerians abroad who are looking to invest back home.
She also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment would soon unveil new initiatives in partnership with NiDCOM to further support Diaspora investors.
She encouraged Nigerians in the Diaspora to consider NiDCOM their first point of contact for assistance and guidance when navigating the Nigerian investment landscape.
Commending Nigerians abroad for their rising remittances and investments under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dabiri-Erewa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining policies and programs that support their efforts.
She stressed that the Diaspora community continues to play a vital role in Nigeria’s economic development and cannot be overlooked.
