Nigerian lady becomes youngest and first African recipient of 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Horizon Award

Adebola Oluchi Aderibigbe, a Nigerian student at Stillman College, Alabama, has made history as the youngest and first African recipient of the 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Horizon Award.
She received the award at the 15th Realizing the Dream Legacy Banquet as part of this year’s celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Adebola was recognized for her advocacy for girls’ rights and literacy promotion.
The award recognizes a person in keeping with Dr. King’s ideals of promoting social justice, peace, and equality who is providing vision, courage, and leadership to improve the quality of life for all.
Adebola was recognized alongside former Birmingham Mayor Richard Arrington, Jr. and attorney and former U.S. Senator Doug Jones who both received the Mountaintop Award and the Call to Conscience Award, respectively.
In attendance was also awarded-winning Journalist Clarence Page who was the speaker at the banquet.
Adebola thanked the entire “Realizing the Dream” committee for considering her for the award.
