NIDCOM lauds Nigerian doctors in America for free medical services, hints at wider collaboration

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has commended the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) for their dedication to providing free medical services across Nigeria. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, NIDCOM’s Chairman/CEO, expressed this during a meeting with ANPA’s Executive Members led by President, Dr. Chinyere Anyaogu.

Dabiri-Erewa hinted at a more strategic engagement with Nigerian doctors in the diaspora under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. She anticipated future collaborations that would leverage the expertise of these professionals.

The NIDCOM boss applauded ANPA and other health professionals for their efforts in building world-class hospitals in Nigeria. She commended their focus on training and capacity building for local healthcare personnel during ANPA’s conventions.

Emphasizing NIDCOM’s commitment to supporting such initiatives, Dabiri-Erewa stated their intention to work closely with ANPA. She encouraged states to actively support the association’s impactful work.

Looking ahead, she expressed hope for a larger platform under the Federal Ministry of Health. This platform would allow diaspora doctors to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s healthcare development. She welcomed the suggestion of hosting ANPA’s 2025 Medical Mission and Convention in Lagos.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anyaogu, ANPA President, briefed the NIDCOM CEO on their upcoming Medical Mission in Umuahia, Abia State. She highlighted the association’s diverse membership, encompassing professionals across various medical fields. Dr. Anyaogu emphasized their desire for inter-disciplinary collaboration with colleagues in Nigeria. This exchange, she believes, would foster knowledge transfer and ultimately enhance healthcare delivery within the country.

The ANPA President further explained that their medical interventions cover a broad spectrum of healthcare needs. Their missions involve a significant number of medical professionals, with a particular focus on training and capacity building for local healthcare givers.

The Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas is a non-profit organization dedicated to a “healthier Nigeria and healthier world.” They achieve this through medical missions and empowering stakeholders to deliver quality healthcare in Nigeria and beyond.
