Blessing Kingsley, a former Republic of Ireland U17 international striker of Nigerian descent, has pledged her international future to the Super Falcons, choosing Nigeria over Ireland at the senior level.
Born on January 15, 2002, in Carlow, Ireland, to Nigerian parents, Kingsley currently plays for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the United States. Despite being raised in Ireland, she credits her decision to a deep love for her Nigerian culture and heritage.
“It’s a country I’m open to representing! I have not had the chance to visit since I was born and raised in Ireland, but I love my culture,” Kingsley told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Kingsley’s football journey began at Presentation College, where her talent earned her a spot on Ireland’s U17 national team in 2018. She made nine appearances and scored one goal for the team. Her club career has also been noteworthy, with appearances in the UEFA Champions League for Wexford Youths and victories in multiple tournaments, including the SO Hotels FAI Women’s Cup in 2018 and 2019.
In the United States, Kingsley has continued to impress, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 17 games as a sophomore for the Golden Eagles in 2021. She earned several accolades, including a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-South Region and the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
As a center forward, Kingsley believes her skills and physicality will bring value to the Super Falcons. “My ability to hold the ball up, my finishing, and my movement in the box can greatly affect the Super Falcons. I think my presence on the team would be appreciated, and I am very valuable as a player,” she said.
With a proven track record and a knack for scoring goals, the 22-year-old could be a promising addition to Nigeria’s forward lineup.
Her inclusion would provide depth and continuity to the Super Falcons as established players like Asisat Oshoala and Ifeoma Onumonu move into the latter stages of their careers.
