Danish-Nigerian wonderkid Chido Obi took to social media to reflect on his senior debut for Manchester United, following his appearance in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 17-year-old forward, who wore the number 56 jersey, was substituted in during the final minutes, replacing Casemiro as the team sought an equalizer.
Obi’s debut for the senior team follows the paths of Nigerian players Odion Ighalo and Shola Shoretire, who also made appearances for Manchester United’s first team.
The youngster joined the club last summer after turning down a scholarship offer from Arsenal and later signed his first professional contract in November 2024.
Though he spent only three minutes on the pitch, Obi received praise from Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim for his performance.
On Instagram, Obi expressed his gratitude to the club and manager for the opportunity. “Disappointed with the loss, but personally thankful to the gaffer and the club for making this dream come true for me and my family,” he wrote.
Obi has been in exceptional form for United’s youth teams this season, netting 15 goals in all competitions, including a recent hat-trick against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup.
He is the club’s 252nd academy graduate.
