390 stranded Nigerians repatriated from Niger Republic

A new batch of 390 stranded Nigerian migrants has been successfully repatriated from Niamey, Niger Republic.

The group, consisting of 387 adult males, two adult females, and one infant boy, arrived at the Nigeria Immigration Training School in Kano at approximately 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday.

This follows the earlier repatriation of 702 Nigerians from Niger Republic in December 2024.

Speaking during a reception held in Kano for the returnees, the Federal Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Tijjani Ahmed, reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to reintegrating the returnees.

He noted that they would be included in various empowerment programs under President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

The repatriation was facilitated through a collaborative multi-agency operation led by the Nigerian Mission in Niamey in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Represented by the Kano State Field Coordinator, Hajiya Liman, Ahmed highlighted that this marks the third batch of voluntary returns from Niger Republic since 2024.

Upon arrival, the returnees were registered and profiled by officials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and the Nigeria Immigration Service to ensure accurate documentation and access to federal government reintegration programs.

The Commissioner commended the seamless cooperation among the agencies involved, emphasizing that their joint efforts were instrumental in the success of the operation.
