Young artist with autism raises awareness through stunning Dubai exhibition

A young Nigerian artist with autism, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke, is using his art to inspire others and raise awareness about autism, as part of the campaigns to mark the 2024 World Autism Day.

His vibrant works were on display in Dubai’s “Spectrum Splendor: A Young Artist’s Journey” exhibition at The H Dubai, the city’s first autism-certified hotel.

“Art has been my voice,” says Kanye. “It allows me to express myself in ways I couldn’t otherwise.” This sentiment shines through in his captivating pieces, which have already garnered awards and residencies across the globe.

The exhibition, opened till April 5th, 2024, showcased 20 of Kanye’s creations. These remarkable works have found homes in galleries, museums, and private collections worldwide. A portion of the proceeds from any sales will be donated to the Dubai Autism Centre.

Kanye has already won awards, and his pieces have already found their way into galleries and museums across the US, Europe, Nigeria and other parts of Africa, and even in the homes of private collectors.

He has been recognised by ATIM Top 60 Masters and he is even the recipient of the Artist of the Year award at the African Contemporary Art Festival.

Beyond the exhibition, Kanye also led an art workshop for children at the Centre on April 5th. The hotel regularly hosts events for children on the autism spectrum and provides specialized training for staff to ensure all guests feel valued and welcome.
