The Ultimate Health HMO is launching a new programme specifically designed for Nigerians living in the United States and the United Kingdom. The “Diaspora Health Insurance” plan allows them to enroll their parents, dependents in Nigeria, and even themselves (if they are US or UK residents) for health coverage in Nigeria.
This initiative aims to address the growing need for accessible healthcare, especially for those who travel back and forth between Nigeria and other countries.
Lekan Ewenla, CEO of Ultimate Health HMO, emphasizes that this program aligns with the government’s push for universal health coverage (UHC) in Nigeria. A recent National Health Insurance Authority act mandates health insurance enrollment for all Nigerians and legal residents.
The programme builds on recent progress. Since President Bola Tinubu’s administration began, over 750,000 Nigerians have joined health insurance schemes. The goal is to cover over 50 million Nigerians, particularly vulnerable populations like the elderly, within the next four years.
Ewenla highlights the significant role Nigerians abroad play in supporting healthcare back home. Many send funds regularly to cover medical needs for loved ones. The Diaspora Health Insurance program offers a convenient and structured way to manage those healthcare costs.
