UK court convicts two Nigerians found guilty of rape

Northampton Crown Court in the United Kingdom has convicted two Nigerian men, Tosin Dada and Solomon Adebiyi, on multiple rape charges.

Northamptonshire Police announced the verdict in a statement on its official Facebook page on Monday, which was later reported by PUNCH Online on Tuesday.

This conviction comes shortly after a Nigerian pilot, Olukayode Ojo, was found guilty in a Texas court for making false statements to secure a certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Dada and Adebiyi had each been charged with three counts of rape related to an incident in March 2022. The men had claimed the sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl was consensual, but the jury found otherwise.

Following the verdict, the court has ordered that both men remain in custody until their sentencing, which is scheduled for October 25, 2024.

The statement from Northamptonshire Police read: “Tosin Dada, 34, formerly of Knox Road, Wellingborough, and Solomon Adebiyi, 39, formerly of Stanley Street, Northampton, were each charged with three counts of rape concerning the incident on March 12, 2022. After a nine-day trial, the jury found both men unanimously guilty on all charges following eight hours of deliberation. They are now remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on October 25, 2024.”
