The Turkish Embassy in Nigeria has refuted recent reports claiming that Turkey has imposed a visa ban on Nigerian passport holders. The embassy clarified that these reports are false and should be disregarded.
Last week, rumors circulated that Turkey, along with Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates, had placed visa bans on Nigerian passport holders and revoked certain privileges such as visa-on-arrival and e-visas.
However, on Saturday, the Turkish Embassy issued a rebuttal, asserting that no such ban exists. The Personal Secretary to the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Wunmi Evelyn, spoke with journalists in Abuja, clarifying the situation.
“There is no visa ban on Nigerian passport holders,” Evelyn stated. “Visa applications are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. While Turkey no longer allows Nigerian passport holders to obtain e-visas—a process that was previously seamless—this does not equate to a ban on visas for Nigerians.”
Evelyn further explained that applicants who have previously been denied a visa should address any mistakes made in their initial applications and improve the quality of their documentation. She emphasized the importance of updating and providing current supporting documents to avoid issues.
“Every application is considered individually, and as long as there is no fraud or forged documents detected, applicants should correct any errors from their initial application and ensure they provide the most recent versions of required documents,” she added.
