Nigerian Bishop honoured with prestigious award in Philippines

Nigerian-born cleric and humanitarian, Bishop Tony Marioghae, has been conferred with the distinguished Icons of Change award at Southville International School and Colleges in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

The prestigious ceremony, attended by diplomats, top Filipino officials, and international dignitaries, celebrated individuals creating transformative impact in their fields.

Bishop Marioghae was recognised for his outstanding contributions to religious leadership, social reform, and humanitarian work in the Philippines, where he has served for over two decades.

Widely celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most influential missionaries and arguably the most prominent African religious figure in Asia, Bishop Marioghae has become a household name in the Philippines.

His dynamic teaching ministry, advocacy for reform, and compassionate outreach have deeply influenced both spiritual and civic life across the nation.

As the founder of The Evangelical Ark Mission (TEAM) International, his message and movement have reached hundreds of thousands worldwide.

His leadership has also extended into governance and development. In 2005, he co-founded the Shine Philippines Movement—a landmark initiative dedicated to promoting values-based leadership and institutional transformation.

In 2007, he was appointed Special Adviser to the former Governor of Quezon Province, Rafael P. Nantes, where he played a key role in boosting the region’s tourism and foreign investment.

Bishop Marioghae currently serves as Director at Beyond Wellness Inc., President of the Confederation of African Ministers, Pastors and Churches (CAMPAC), and head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, Philippines (NIDOPHIL).

He made history in 2008 when he became the youngest Evangelical Pentecostal Bishop consecrated in the Philippines and the first African to be ordained by the Councils of Bishops and Ministers Association of the Philippines (CBMAP).

He continues to serve on the CBMAP board and spearheads its global outreach efforts.

Bishop Marioghae’s legacy includes monumental achievements such as the construction of the first Pentecostal cathedral in Lucena City in 2012 and the completion of a multi-million-dollar convention centre in Las Piñas City in 2019—one of the largest church buildings in the country.

Beyond the pulpit, he has launched numerous initiatives including food distribution drives, free medical missions, and scholarship programmes that have enabled hundreds of underprivileged Filipinos to access higher education.

Born on October 1, 1970, Marioghae studied Mass Communications and Political Science at the University of Jos, Nigeria, before pursuing advanced degrees in Leadership at Northwestern Christian University in the Philippines.

Coming from a family of public service and ministry, he credits his values to his parents—Hon. Daniel Marioghae, a noted human rights advocate, and Mrs. Regina Marioghae, a gospel singer and entrepreneur.

He is also the nephew of Archbishop Michael Marioghae, one of the founding fathers of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

He is married to Dr. Ernaida Cuevas Marioghae, a respected academic and former consultant to the Philippine House of Representatives.

They are blessed with two daughters, Tehilah and Deborah, who are building careers in law and medicine in the UK and Canada, respectively.

Bishop Marioghae’s recognition as an Icon of Change stands as a testament to a life of purpose, cross-cultural impact, and unwavering commitment to service.
