NiDCOM urges Nigerians abroad to register for diaspora data mapping

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called on Nigerians living abroad, particularly in the Euroasia region, to register for its 2025 Comprehensive Data Mapping initiative.

Speaking in Abuja, NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of data mapping in enhancing diaspora engagement and making diaspora voting a reality.

She noted that one of the major obstacles to implementing diaspora voting is the absence of credible data on Nigerians living overseas.

Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians to register on NiDCOM’s Data Mapping Portal, stressing that every eligible Nigerian, regardless of location, should have a voice in the country’s democratic process. She also praised the Council of Nigerian Association Presidents in Australia for their support in fostering beneficial partnerships between Nigeria and host countries.

The Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador Jane Adams, described the data mapping initiative as timely and essential.

She assured that the Mission is working with relevant agencies to ensure Nigerians abroad are treated with dignity in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

NiDCOM’s Head of Technology Transfer and Innovation, Abdulrahman Terab, highlighted the security measures of the data portal, assuring users that their information is protected under Nigeria’s Data Protection Regulation.

He explained that the collected data will help provide targeted services such as Diaspora Mortgage Schemes and Housing.

The Diaspora Data-Mapping Portal, launched in 2021, aims to create an accurate database of Nigerians abroad to facilitate better engagement and tailored policy initiatives.
