Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Eragbai E. Evborokhai has made history as the first Nigerian-born soldier to command a U.S. Army infantry regiment.
His remarkable achievement also positions him as the most senior non-commissioned officer (NCO) in the Army, giving him a vital role in addressing the concerns of soldiers at all levels, from enlisted personnel to senior officers and generals.
As a senior enlisted advisor, CSM Evborokhai plays a crucial role in facilitating communication between the command and the troops, ensuring that key issues affecting soldiers are effectively addressed.
Born in Nigeria, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland, and completed his infantry one-station unit training at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in various critical roles, including Rifleman, Automatic Rifleman, Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Drill Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Operations Sergeant Major.
His assignments have taken him across multiple U.S. Army divisions, including the 1st Battalion 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii, the 2nd Battalion 6th Infantry Regiment in Germany, and the 1st Battalion 77th Armor Regiment at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
He has also been deployed with the 4th Battalion 6th Infantry Regiment, the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas, and the 3rd Squadron 4th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.
He currently serves as the Command Sergeant Major of the 4th Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment “Manchu” at Fort Carson, Colorado.
CSM Evborokhai is not only a decorated military leader but also a highly educated professional.
His military training includes numerous advanced courses, such as the Warrior Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Sergeants Major Academy, and Ranger School.
He has also completed specialized military programs in Malaysia and Australia.
Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security from the University of Maryland Global Campus and a Bachelor of Arts in Workforce and Leadership Development from the Command and General Staff College.
His outstanding service has earned him numerous awards and recognitions, including two Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals, the Valorous Unit Award, and the prestigious Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
