Lookman in line for Atalanta Player of the Year

Super Eagles’ attacker, Ademola Lookman, has been shortlisted for the Atalanta Player of the Year award.

Lookman faces competition for the coveted prize from Gianluca Scamacca, Marten De Roon, Sead Kolasinac, Ederson, and Teun Koopmeiners.

The team released the list of the nominated players on Tuesday and the Nigerian International who has scored 16 goals in 44 games in all competitions is prominent on the list.

Despite putting up a shaky performance at some point in the Italian Serie A, the Bergamo-based side lives up to the expectations to win the UEFA Europa League with Lookman’s hat trick the difference for the Zebras in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.

They also got to the final of the Coppa Italia where they lost 1-0 to Juventus.

Meanwhile, Lookman and his Atalanta teammates are set to receive Bergamo’s highest honour because of their superlative season which culminated to their triumph in the UEFA Europa League.

The team put up a spirited performance to put a dent on the unbeaten record of German Champions, Bayer Leverkusen, with Nigeria’s Lookman scoring all three of Atalanta’s goals in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.

The team will be awarded Bergamo’s gold medal by the Mayor of the city, Giorgio Gori.

“Awarding the highest civic honour to Atalanta is a heartfelt decision, driven by our gratitude to a team that has filled us with pride,” the information on the club’s website read.

The official ceremony will take place on Friday, 31st May  at Palazzo Frizzoni.
