Nigerian woman Nicky Sommy Ugom has taken to Facebook to share her reasons for relocating from Germany to the United Kingdom, citing language barriers as one of the main challenges that influenced her decision.
In her post, Nicky reflected on her experience living in Germany, noting that the difficulty of learning and using the German language significantly affected her ability to pursue her goals abroad.
“Whenever people ask me why I left Germany for the UK, the first thing that comes to mind is, ‘I didn’t come abroad to learn a new language,’” she wrote.
While she acknowledged that there were several factors behind her move, she emphasized that the language barrier was particularly limiting.
Though she didn’t dismiss the possibility of adapting to the language, she admitted it was a tough hurdle.
“There were other reasons I left, but the language was a major one. I’m not saying it’s something no one can manage, but it’s definitely challenging,” she explained.
Nicky described Germany as a generally good country to live in, but warned that the language could slow down progress for those with clear goals and ambitions.
“The country itself is fine, but the language can delay your journey toward achieving your goals,” she added.
