Japa: Travel agent arraigned over visa fraud

A 42-year-old travel agent, Victor Enike, appeared before a Grade “A” Customary Court in Ibadan on Wednesday, facing charges of visa fraud.

Enike pleaded not guilty to accusations of theft and obtaining money under false pretences.

Prosecutor Philip Amusan informed the court that the alleged offences took place on January 3, around 3:30 p.m., in the Ijokodo area of Ibadan. Amusan stated that Enike had promised to secure a Canadian visa for Kolade Oladokun, receiving N870,000 from him but failing to fulfill the agreement.

The charges are in violation of Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Oyo State Criminal Laws, 2000, as the defendant allegedly converted the money for personal use.

The court’s president, Sukurat Yusuf, granted Enike bail in the sum of N750,000, with two reliable sureties of the same amount. The case was adjourned until October 18 for further hearing.
