The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of Nigerians in Libya in light of a recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the Libyan Football Association.
Reports have emerged suggesting that Nigerians in Libya faced harassment from local authorities after CAF criticized the Libyan FA for mistreating the Nigerian team and officials during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the Ministry assured that Nigerians living in Libya are safe and able to go about their daily lives without interference.
The Ministry emphasized its ongoing vigilance and commitment to protecting Nigerian citizens abroad, highlighting the government’s dedication to their welfare amid evolving diplomatic circumstances.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to emphasize that, at the time of this statement, Nigerians in Libya are conducting their daily activities without experiencing any form of harassment from Libyan authorities, following CAF’s ruling against the Libyan Football Association for their treatment of the Nigerian team and officials,” the statement read.
“The safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens worldwide remain a top priority for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure it.”
