Chidimma Adetshina agrees to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria after SA rejection

Chidimma Adetshina, the Miss South Africa contestant who recently encountered controversy, has confirmed her participation in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.

The 23-year-old model faced scrutiny over her eligibility for the Miss South Africa competition due to questions about her nationality. This led to her withdrawal from the contest after an investigation by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs.

The controversy erupted when Chidimma, who advanced to the round of 16 in the Miss South Africa pageant, faced backlash on social media regarding her citizenship. The debate grew with calls for her disqualification, prompting an official inquiry into her nationality.

Born in Soweto, South Africa, Chidimma Adetshina has Nigerian and Mozambican heritage. Recent allegations from the South African Department of Home Affairs suggested potential fraud and identity theft involving her mother.

In response to concerns for her family’s safety, Chidimma decided to withdraw from the Miss South Africa final, which took place on August 10.

Following her withdrawal, she received an invitation to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which she has now accepted. Chidimma announced her decision on Wednesday through a social media post shared by Ben Murray-Bruce, founder of Silverbird Group. She expressed her excitement about participating in what she called “Africa’s most prestigious” beauty pageant.
