The government of Chad has deported approximately 600 Nigerian migrants who were found engaging in begging activities across various parts of the country.
These individuals, mostly from the Nigerian states of Borno, Kano, Sokoto, and Kaduna, had entered Chad without proper documentation.
Muhammed Barkindo, Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), revealed that many of the deported individuals had fled the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State, seeking refuge in neighboring Chad and Cameroon since 2019.
Living under difficult conditions, the migrants turned to begging as a means of survival. In response, SEMA provided logistical support, basic supplies, and N10,000 for transportation to help them return to their home states. Many of the deported individuals expressed a desire to go back to Nigeria due to the hardships they faced while living in Chad.
