NiDCOM partners with Cuban Embassy to foster cultural exchange

The Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has partnered with the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Nigeria to promote cultural exchange between their citizens.

The collaboration was formalized during a courtesy visit by Cuba’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Miriam Palmero, to NiDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa in Abuja on Monday.

Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of uniting people of African descent globally to promote African culture and enhance the continent’s diversity, strength, and progress. She expressed NiDCOM’s eagerness to collaborate with the Cuban government and people for effective diaspora engagement and cultural exchange.

In her response, Ambassador Palmero highlighted the significance of cultural exchanges in building identities, noting the shared historical experiences of both nations. She also extended an invitation to Dabiri-Erewa to attend ‘The Decade for the People of African Descent’ event in Cuba this December, which will take place in Havana and Matanzas provinces.

Palmero likened the event to Lagos’ Badagry ‘Door of Return Festival,’ underscoring its spiritual and socio-economic importance to the African Diaspora. She praised Dabiri-Erewa for her efforts in engaging with the diaspora and expressed enthusiasm about building a mutually beneficial relationship with NiDCOM.
