Brentford fullback Michael Kayode has earned a spot in Whoscored.com’s Premier League Team of the Week following his standout performance in Brentford’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United this past weekend.
In his third start in the Premier League, the Italy U21 international of Nigerian descent provided his first assist for Brentford, helping set up Yoane Wissa’s fourth goal in the match.
Kayode wasn’t the only Brentford player to be recognized, as German international of Nigerian descent, Kevin Schade, also made the cut.
The Team of the Week saw Leicester City dominate with three representatives: goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk, fullback Luke Thomas, and forward Jordan Ayew.
Chelsea had two players in the lineup: midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer. Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho also earned a place in the squad.
Other players rounding out the Team of the Week include Murillo (Nottingham Forest), Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City), and Yankuba Minteh (Brighton).
Kayode’s impressive performance was highlighted by his first-ever Premier League assist, along with two key passes, five dribbles, three clearances, two tackles, and two interceptions, resulting in a WhoScored rating of 8.20.
The Italian-Nigerian right-back joined Brentford from Fiorentina during the winter transfer window, with the Bees holding an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
