‘Breaking my record meant a lot’ – Osimhen reflects after brace against Sivasspor

Victor Osimhen says surpassing his personal goal-scoring record in his debut season at Galatasaray is an unforgettable achievement.

The Nigerian striker hit a new career milestone after netting twice in Galatasaray’s 6-1 victory over Sivasspor on Saturday at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi RAMS Park.

With those goals, Osimhen brought his tally to 33 goals in all competitions for the season—including 24 in the Turkish Super Lig—eclipsing his previous best of 31 goals, recorded during the 2022–2023 campaign with Napoli.

Speaking to the club’s official media after the game, Osimhen expressed his pride and appreciation for the support he has received since arriving on loan from Napoli in September 2024.

“It was important to break my record in my first season,” Osimhen said. “I am at one of the most important clubs in the world—the biggest club in Türkiye. I thank my family, friends, the technical team, and all the club staff who stood by me. This season will remain one of the most memorable of my life.”

Osimhen, who wears jersey number 45, praised his teammates for their role in his success and emphasized that personal achievements are secondary to the team’s performance.

“Beyond goals and assists, I always try to support the team—whether by helping in midfield or creating space. The team comes first. When I score, it brings me joy, but what really matters is Galatasaray’s success,” he said.

He also acknowledged key players around him, saying, “Roland is very important, and the same goes for Mario, Torreira, and Sanchez. We’ve built great chemistry on the pitch.”

With 33 goals and 8 assists in just 37 appearances across all competitions, Osimhen has become a fan favorite in Istanbul.

However, Galatasaray may struggle to keep the prolific forward beyond the current season, as Napoli reportedly value the 25-year-old at €75 million.
