On Thursday, Nigeria’s wrestling team faced a setback as Odunayo Adekuoroye, a key medal contender, was defeated by China’s Hong Kexin with a score of 8-10 in the women’s freestyle 57 kilogram event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In the quarter-final match held at the Champ-de-Mars Arena, Adekuoroye initially held her ground, ending the first period tied with Hong despite an early lead.
However, Hong gained momentum in the second period, scoring technical points and advancing to the semi-finals.
Earlier in the day, Adekuoroye secured a victory in the first round against Algeria’s Chaimaa Aouissi, who was injured during the match.
