The United States announced plans to launch two initiatives aimed at fostering cultural exchange and boosting the Nigerian creative industry. The African Creative Television (ACTV) and the American Music Mentoring Programme will provide Nigerian screenwriters, producers, cinematographers, and music creatives with the opportunity to train under renowned American professionals.
This announcement, made by Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield during a visit to the University of Lagos, underscores a commitment to “opening doors and opening ideas” between the two nations.
Selected participants will receive mentorship and training from established figures in American television and film production at the prestigious University of Southern California. Additionally, Nigerian musicians will have the chance to work with the Grammy Recording Academy in the US. This collaboration comes on the heels of the Grammy’s recent introduction of a “Best African Music Performance” category, highlighting their focus on promoting African representation.
