Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted various quantities of cocaine and opioids including tramadol, pentazocine injection, morphine sulphate, and ketamine injection concealed in shoes, clothes, and other items destined for the United States, United Kingdom, and Cyprus.
In one instance, NDLEA officers discovered over 250 grams of cocaine concealed in the soles of custom-made shoes bound for Cyprus. Additionally, more than five kilograms of opioids intended for shipment to the US and UK were found hidden in clothes and household items at courier firms in Lagos.
Furthermore, a shipment from Canada to Lagos containing 440 grams of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives in a logistics company.
In a separate operation in Edo State on July 10, 2024, NDLEA intercepted a vehicle at Ewu junction, Esan Central LGA, based on credible intelligence. During a search of the vehicle, operatives discovered 3,000 pills of tramadol 225mg concealed in custard containers belonging to Aminu Abdullahi, 32, who confessed to buying the drugs in Onitsha, Anambra State, and intending to sell them in Mararaba, Abuja.
In Lagos, on July 8, NDLEA operatives raided a warehouse in VGC, Lekki, seizing 148 cartons of non-medical nitrous oxide (laughing gas), 108 cartons of fast gas cylinders, 134 pieces of balloons, and 109 cartons of infusion chargers. Suliyat Abdulsalam was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The NDLEA also conducted War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities nationwide, including lectures in schools and outreach programs in various communities. Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the efforts of NDLEA commands and formations across the country for their diligent enforcement actions and urged them to sustain their efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse.
