Dr. Akinyemi Agbede, a Nigerian-born mathematician and political figure, has officially declared his candidacy for the upcoming California governorship election in the United States.
If successful, Dr. Agbede could become the first Nigerian-born individual to hold the position after the November 3, 2026 election.

Dr. Agbede, a renowned mathematician with a deep understanding of California’s political landscape, previously ran for the U.S. Senate. Drawing inspiration from the success of Kemi Badenoch, a Nigerian-born politician who became the Conservative Party Leader in the United Kingdom, he believes his candidacy represents a unique opportunity to achieve historic success.
