UNICEF: Nigeria Learning Passport reaches one million subscribers

UNICEF has announced a major achievement with the Nigeria Learning Passport, surpassing one million subscribers.

Launched amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, this innovative digital platform has become essential in providing uninterrupted education nationwide.

Developed through collaboration with UNICEF, Nigerian ministries of education, and key partners like Microsoft, Airtel, and Sony, the Learning Passport offers over 15,000 curriculum-aligned resources.

These include interactive lessons and digital textbooks, catering to students from primary to secondary levels, as well as educators and parents.

Ms. Cristian Munduate, UNICEF Nigeria Representative, emphasized the platform’s role in bridging educational gaps, particularly in remote areas.

The Learning Passport has mitigated disruptions caused by the pandemic and other challenges, ensuring safe learning environments and accessibility for all. Soon, an offline capability will further extend its reach to learners with limited internet access.

Key features include a comprehensive curriculum in local languages (English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba), interactive learning tools, and free usage on Airtel networks. Partnerships with Airtel, IHS Towers, and others have facilitated data services and connectivity, while Microsoft’s infrastructure supports platform operations.

Funding from Sony, Botnar Foundation, and the Global Partnership for Education has enabled expansion and teacher capacity building.

UNICEF Nigeria continues to collaborate closely with government bodies and partners to expand the Learning Passport’s impact and adapt its content to evolving educational needs.

This milestone not only supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 but also underscores UNICEF’s commitment to providing quality education and a brighter future for Nigerian children through innovation.
