The Metropolitan Police have issued a warning to Nigerian wives and mothers against evicting their husbands from their homes.
The advice was delivered during a service at Divine Restoration International Church, situated at Hanworth House on John Ruskin Street in Camberwell, London.
The service, aimed at a predominantly Nigerian female audience, highlighted a concerning statistic: over 70% of Yoruba women in England, Wales, and Ireland are single mothers who might leverage the threat of police intervention to obtain welfare benefits from their children’s fathers.
An officer, alongside colleagues from various backgrounds, urged the women to avoid involving the police in family matters. He emphasized the critical role of fathers in their children’s lives, noting that paternal involvement is crucial for their well-being and to prevent them from missing out on necessary parental care.
Additionally, the officer addressed the issue of knife crime within the African diaspora communities, advising the women to protect themselves from becoming victims. He underscored the importance of both parents actively participating in their children’s upbringing to ensure a supportive family environment.
