The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, has disclosed that the United Kingdom processes approximately 1,500 visa applications from Nigeria each day.
Speaking during the UK-Nigeria Economic Growth Conference held on Wednesday in Abuja, Montgomery cautioned Nigerians to remain alert and avoid falling victim to visa fraud.
He urged applicants to use official application channels and provide accurate information to improve their chances of approval.
Addressing concerns over visa rejections, Montgomery emphasized that many Nigerians continue to successfully secure UK visas.
He revealed that hundreds of thousands of Nigerian applicants are granted visas annually, and Nigerians constitute nearly 10 percent of all visitors to the UK.
Highlighting the historical ties between both nations, the envoy noted that Nigeria remains a vital source of visitors to the UK, which welcomes over 37.9 million travelers each year.
Montgomery further clarified that the majority of visa rejections stem from inaccurate or incomplete documentation, rather than issues of eligibility.
He stressed that when applicants follow the proper procedures, most visa requests are approved.
He also pointed out that the UK offers a variety of visa categories, including standard, priority, and super-priority services. Legitimate business travelers, he added, can benefit from several available visa pathways if they meet the requirements.
Reaffirming the commitment of the British government, Montgomery said the UK remains dedicated to deepening its relationship with Nigeria and enhancing economic and people-to-people ties.
