UK-based gospel singer, Muyiwa Olarewaju recounts ordeal after robbery attempt

Popular UK-based gospel artiste, Muyiwa Olarewaju, has opened up about a distressing experience in which he says he was wrongly treated as a suspect after surviving an attempted robbery.

In a video posted on his Twitter account, Muyiwa narrated how the incident occurred earlier this year around 5:30 a.m. while he was on his way to work.

According to him, a young white male tried to break into his vehicle and ended up shattering the window.

“I told the police where they could find security cameras in the area,” he said, explaining that he promptly reported the attack and expected the authorities to act accordingly.

However, what began as a report from a victim quickly turned into a situation where he himself came under suspicion.

“Soon after the police got in touch, I was shocked to find out that I had become the subject of an investigation,” Muyiwa explained. “Yes, I was being treated as the suspect.”

Despite being the one who narrowly escaped harm, Muyiwa said he had to undergo police questioning and even secure legal representation.

“They didn’t find the actual attacker, who was clearly captured on surveillance footage, but I was being investigated for affray,” he revealed.

The investigation, which he described as emotionally taxing, lasted three months before it was eventually closed due to insufficient evidence.
