Ademola Lookman had a standout performance on Wednesday night as he led Atalanta to a commanding 3-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League clash at Veltins-Arena in Germany.
Lookman played a key role in the match, contributing both an assist and a goal. He set up the opening goal in the 21st minute by delivering a well-placed cross following a quick free kick that was met by Berat Djimsiti, who drove the ball past the Shakhtar goalkeeper.
Just before halftime, Lookman added to Atalanta’s lead in the 44th minute. After a pullback by former Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac, Lookman calmly finished from inside the box.
Despite being ahead 2-0 at halftime, Atalanta didn’t stop there. Shortly after the break, Raoul Bellanova, who was unmarked, headed in a pinpoint cross from Davide Zappacosta, extending the lead and sealing the victory.
This win marks Atalanta’s first away triumph following a goalless draw against Arsenal in Bergamo. Shakhtar Donetsk will aim to bounce back in their next match against Arsenal at the Emirates on October 22.
