Tottenham Hotspur Submits Premier League Squad Featuring Nigerian Players

Following the closure of the summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur has finalized and submitted their squad list for the Premier League season. Manager Ange Postecoglou will have the opportunity to deploy five players of Nigerian descent in the early part of the 2024-2025 season.

Dominic Solanke, who is Tottenham’s record signing at £65 million, is the most prominent Nigerian player on the list. Solanke, who has already made his debut for Tottenham this season, played the full match against Leicester City on opening day but has since been sidelined due to an ankle injury. After missing games against Everton and Newcastle United, Solanke is set to return to the lineup for the north London derby against Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Since his Premier League debut with Crystal Palace on August 19, 2017, Solanke has accumulated 135 appearances and contributed 42 goal involvements, including 29 goals and 13 assists.

In addition to Solanke, Postecoglou has included four Nigerian U21 players in the squad: Timi Adekunle (17), Miracle Adewole (16), Damola Ajayi (18), and Callum Olusesi (17). None of these young talents have yet made a Premier League appearance. For the 2024-2025 season, U21 players are those born on or after January 1, 2003.

Solanke is one of nine homegrown players listed in Tottenham’s Premier League squad. A homegrown player is defined as someone who has been registered with a club affiliated with The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a minimum of three full seasons, or 36 months, before turning 21.
