President Bola Tinubu has highlighted the positive contributions of Nigerians abroad, stating that their success stories will serve as a source of inspiration for the younger generation, encouraging them to uphold values that enhance the nation’s image.
While receiving Letters of Credence from the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio, and the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius F. Sandy, on Thursday in Abuja, President Tinubu commended the significant roles Nigerians in the diaspora play across various sectors.
The President also received Letters of Credence from Legesse Geremew Haile, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Nigeria, and Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican to Nigeria.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Canadian High Commissioner informed President Tinubu of the active contributions of Nigerians in Canada in sectors such as education, sports, science, health, and business.
He noted the high levels of responsibility, civility, and determination displayed by the Nigerian community in Canada.
“For us, Nigeria is a key partner. You are the largest country in Africa with one of the largest economies and also Canada’s largest trading partner in Africa,” Salvaggio said.
He emphasized Canada’s intention to further deepen ties with Nigeria, especially in the oil and gas, ICT, and agriculture sectors.
President Tinubu expressed his admiration for the achievements of Nigerians abroad, calling their accomplishments an inspiration. “It is always encouraging to hear about the success of Nigerians in the diaspora,” he remarked.
During his meeting with the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, the President reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to regional development and strengthening bilateral ties with Sierra Leone.
The High Commissioner acknowledged Nigeria’s significant role in maintaining stability in Sierra Leone and praised the contributions of Nigerians, particularly in business and education.
In his discussion with the Ethiopian Ambassador, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to promote peace and stability across Africa, acknowledging that insecurity remains a major challenge to the continent’s development.
The Ethiopian Ambassador expressed a desire to further enhance cultural relations between the two countries, especially through Ethiopian Airlines.
However, President Tinubu received the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican and commended the Catholic Church’s vital role in education and poverty alleviation efforts in Nigeria.
He stressed that education is key to combating ignorance and poverty, and he expressed eagerness to strengthen relations with the Vatican in Nigeria.
