Three Nigerians arrested in Libya for drug trafficking

The Samnu Police Department in southern Libya has apprehended three Nigerian nationals on charges of drug trafficking.

A statement by Migrant Rescue Watch on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday revealed that the suspects were allegedly caught with a significant amount of hashish, which authorities suspect was intended for distribution.

The arrests occurred during a targeted operation in Samnu, a town in the Murzuq district, an area known for smuggling and human trafficking due to its proximity to Libya’s southern borders.

The operation is part of ongoing security measures aimed at combating drug-related crimes and cross-border trafficking involving migrants.

The identities of the arrested individuals have not been disclosed.

Authorities have confirmed that the case has been forwarded to the public prosecution for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The statement confirmed, “Samnu Police Dept. arrested 3 migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking.

The trio were found in possession of hashish, earmarked for sale. The case was referred to public prosecution.”
