Stop sending money home, Canada-Based Nigerian Doctor advises Diasporans

A Canada-based Nigerian doctor, Dr. Zo, has sparked a debate on social media after advising Nigerians in the diaspora to reconsider sending money back home.

In a viral video, Dr. Zo argued that Nigerians living in the country often enjoy a better quality of life than their counterparts abroad.

Dr. Zo, who recently visited Nigeria, shared his thoughts on the vibrant lifestyle in the country, stating that the financial sacrifices made by diasporans might not be necessary. He said, “When you’re abroad, making money, and sending money to anyone in Nigeria, just understand that they have a better lifestyle than you—they’re living better than you.”

He went on to praise Nigeria’s rich culture, specifically the food, and remarked, “Nigeria is a lovely place. In fact, I think we should fast and pray for the government to work because the jollof in Nigeria is unbeatable.”

Dr. Zo also revealed his intention to invest in property in Nigeria, citing the country’s unique appeal. “I’ll be booking my house in Nigeria soon. I pray the country gets better so I can come back and enjoy life here with everyone. Anyone I send money to in Nigeria now, I’ll tell them, ‘This is mountain going to Muhammad.’ You guys are enjoying more than us,” he said.

In a follow-up video, Dr. Zo reiterated his point, emphasizing the contrasts between life abroad and in Nigeria. “I’ve lived abroad for years, traveled across four continents, and I’m a top medical professional in Canada. But after spending just a day or two here, I stand by my point. Even the food is better here,” he added.

He concluded, “If someone offered me even 20% of what I earn now, I’d move back to Nigeria. The life here is beautiful. You’re surrounded by your people, enjoying the culture and energy of the country.”
