In a remarkable event set for September 20, 2025, more than 60,000 teachers from both public and private schools across Nigeria will converge in Lagos to attempt breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of teachers in one place.
The historic gathering will take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
Oluwaseyi Anifowose, Director of Strategic Partnerships for 1 Million Teachers, shared details about the conference during a press briefing in Ikeja, Lagos.
The event, titled “Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025,” will focus on the theme, “Teachers Matter: Celebrating the Role of Teachers in Enhancing Quality Education.”
Anifowose, who is the convener of the event, noted that the Lagos State Government has given its full approval for the gathering and is supporting the initiative.
The government has ensured that all public school teachers will be able to attend, with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and other relevant stakeholders in education also participating.
“Over 60,000 teachers will come together at Tafawa Balewa Square to celebrate their indispensable role in society, reaffirm their commitment to their profession, and attempt to set a new world record for the largest gathering of educators,” Anifowose said.
“This event is more than just about setting a world record—it’s a movement to change the narrative, challenge perceptions, and redefine the value of teachers in Nigeria.”
The conference will feature inspiring speeches from prominent education figures, including Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, as well as national and global experts in the education sector. A key outcome of the conference will be a “call to action” communique aimed at advancing teacher-driven education reforms.
Anifowose emphasized his personal dedication to the teaching profession, saying that becoming a teacher was a deliberate choice rather than a last resort.
“Teachers are the pillars of societal transformation, and this event will shine a spotlight on their invaluable contributions to nation-building,” he stated.
Prof. Hakeem Subair, CEO of 1 Million Teachers, also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every child has access to high-quality education by creating a world filled with well-trained, passionate teachers.
