Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has celebrated Remo Stars’ historic Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title win by gifting the club a total of N10 million — N5 million to the players and another N5 million to the technical crew.
The Napoli forward personally placed a video call to the team to congratulate them before announcing the generous reward.
Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede confirmed the gesture, which comes as tributes continue to pour in for the Ikenne-based club, who secured their first-ever NPFL title just four years after earning promotion to the top flight.
Among those who congratulated the team was President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who praised the players, technical crew, and management for their dedication and hard work.
“This historic achievement is a product of discipline, resilience, and vision,” the President said.
President Tinubu also commended club chairman Kunle Soname for his long-term investment in grassroots football, urging Remo Stars to represent Nigeria with pride in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun also hailed the club’s achievement, calling it a historic moment for the state.
“Remo Stars’ perseverance and consistency have finally brought national glory,” he said, noting that the club had become the first privately owned team to win the NPFL since Ocean Boys in 2006.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) described the win as a moment of “immense pride” for both the club and the southwest region, which last produced a league winner in 2000 through Julius Berger FC.
CAF confirmed that all eyes will now be on Remo Stars as they prepare for the CAF Champions League.
Rival clubs and stakeholders also praised the title-winning feat. Rangers International, in a statement, described the triumph as “extraordinary,” celebrating the club’s 15-year journey of building and striving.
Ikorodu City FC chairman Sanmi Doherty congratulated Soname, who also marked his birthday during the celebrations, and applauded the club for reaping the rewards of long-term private investment.
Heartland FC’s technical manager, Emmanuel Amuneke, commended Remo Stars for setting a new standard in Nigerian club football.
“Their success proves what can be achieved with proper planning and commitment,” he said.
Remo Stars still have three matches left this season.
They will face El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on matchday 36, host Ikorodu City on matchday 37—when they will officially lift the league trophy—and wrap up their campaign against Bayelsa United in Yenagoa.
