Ismail Adua Mustapha has made history as Nigeria’s first professor of aviation law, marking a significant milestone in the country’s legal and academic landscape.
Born in Ilorin, Mustapha began his academic career at the University of Ilorin, where he was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer on February 23, 2008.
Over the years, he steadily progressed through the academic ranks, culminating in his appointment as a professor.
His journey in legal academia saw him join the Department of Business Law at the University of Ilorin’s Faculty of Law. He later pursued and obtained a PhD from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2014, further strengthening his expertise in business and aviation law.
As a scholar, Professor Mustapha has made significant contributions to his field, publishing extensively in national and international law journals. His research primarily focuses on aviation and business law, and he currently serves as the Head of the Department of Business Law at the University of Ilorin.
His academic brilliance was evident early in his career, earning him the departmental award for Best Final-Year Student in Islamic Law at the University of Ilorin during the 2003/2004 academic session.
In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Mustapha is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria. He has also contributed to legal education in the country by serving as an External Examiner for the Council of Legal Education in Nigeria.
Among his notable publications is Aviation Security: Airline Passengers’ Roles in Combating Air-Terrorism in the 21st Century, published in 2015 in the Al-Hikmah University Law Journal.
With his groundbreaking achievements in aviation law, Professor Ismail Adua Mustapha is paving the way for further academic and professional advancements in the field.
