The federal government has encouraged Nigerians residing in China to continue promoting the nation’s cultural heritage and fostering peaceful coexistence with their hosts, as part of efforts to support nation-building.
Akinremi Bolaji, Director of Trade, Economic, and Investment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made this call during his virtual address on Monday, marking Nigeria’s 64th National Day celebration organized by Nigerians in Guangzhou, China.
Bolaji praised the Nigerians in Guangzhou for their leadership and dedication to unity, acknowledging their role in bringing together people from diverse Nigerian ethnic groups. He emphasized the importance of fostering a better future for the country through collective efforts.
“Nigeria has made significant progress over the past 64 years, and there is renewed hope with the new administration’s eight-point agenda. I urge you all to continue to serve as good ambassadors of Nigeria,” he said. “Also, with President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to China, I encourage you to take advantage of opportunities to strengthen Nigeria-China relations, particularly through people-to-people exchanges.”
He stressed that by collaborating as a community, Nigerians in China could make a positive impact on both nations’ future and further bolster their bilateral relationship.
George Onwuekwe, the Consul General in Guangzhou, also highlighted the importance of aligning with President Tinubu’s 4D agenda—development, infrastructure, economic growth, and social welfare.
He thanked the Guangzhou government for its cooperation, which has supported the flourishing of Nigerians in the region.
“This collaboration has not only enhanced the Nigeria-China partnership but also fostered cultural exchange, economic growth, and people-to-people relations,” Onwuekwe said.
Olarenwaju Oba, president of the Nigerian community in Guangzhou, expressed gratitude to the Nigerians who participated in the celebration, praising their patriotism and sense of unity.
He concluded, “Let us seize this moment to recommit ourselves to Nigeria’s progress and ensure that our unity, cultural exchange, and renewed sense of purpose contribute to the sustainable growth of our beloved nation.”
