Nigerian trio qualify for Olympics long jump final

Nigerian athletes Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Oluchi Ochonogor have successfully qualified for the final of the women’s Long Jump at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Brume secured her place with a final jump of 6.76m, while Usoro’s 6.68m and Ochonogor’s 6.65m also earned them spots among the top 12 competitors.

Brume, who holds titles as Nigerian, African, and Commonwealth long jump champion, is aiming to become the first Nigerian track and field athlete to win two individual Olympic medals.

With a history of winning medals in nearly all her international competitions, Brume is poised to continue her success in Paris.

Both Usoro and Ochonogor are making their Olympic debuts and are eager to make a significant impact in the final at Stade de France.

The Women’s Long Jump has been a strong event for Nigeria, with past successes including Chioma Ajunwa’s gold at the Atlanta 1996 Games and Blessing Okagbare’s silver at the Beijing 2008 Games. Brume’s bronze at the Tokyo Games completed the medal set, and she is now targeting another podium finish in Paris
